United Thank Offering

I support refugees because:

  • Jesus would,
  • I would want to be helped if I were a refugee,
  • There is enough for all, and
  • After all, who is my neighbor?

— Sherri Dietrich, UTO Board President, Diocese of Maine

I support refugees because everyone should have a safe place to live.
— Joyce Landers, UTO Board Vice President, Diocese of Central Gulf Coast

I support refugees because the Holy Family were refugees.
— Kathy Mank, UTO Board Financial Secretary, Diocese of Southern Ohio

I support refugees because of my Baptismal Covenant.
— Jane Jellison, Province I UTO Board Representative, Diocese of Rhode Island

I support refugees because we are all God’s children. We are all created in the image of God. Refugees are in search of the same quality of life that most of us experience every day. Let us embrace them as Jesus charged us to “love thy neighbor as thyself” (Matthew 22:39).
— Vernese Smith, Province II UTO Board Representative, Diocese of Long Island

I support refugees because it is the Christian thing to do. As an immigrant, I realize that there is a very thin line between being an immigrant and being a refugee. We all left our country of birth to seek a better life for ourselves and our families. For many it is basic survival. I feel like I have contributed positively to the USA and refugees will help to make this country a better place.
— Rosamond Daniels, Province III UTO Board Representative, Diocese of Washington

I support refugees because as Christians we are called to welcome refugees.
— Diane Gabbard, Province IV UTO Board Representative, Diocese of Kentucky

I support refugees because it’s the right thing to do!!!
— Gail Donovan, Province V UTO Board Representative, Diocese of Western Michigan

I support refugees because we are all God’s children.
— The Rev. Chris Plantz, Province VI UTO Board Representative, Diocese of Nebraska

I support refugees because my baptismal vow to seek and serve Christ in all people and to respect the dignity of all people is real.
— The Rev. Peggy Cromwell, Province VII UTO Board Representative, Diocese of Arkansas

I support refugees because God has placed in me a compassionate heart for those who need.
— Hilda Lammar, Province IX UTO Board Representative, Diocese of the Dominican Republic

I support refugees because the Bible tells me so – no less than 54 times.
— Caitlyn Darnell, Young Adult UTO Board Member, Diocese of North Carolina

I support refugees because loving God is loving everybody and doing so teaches our generation, which is distracted by media and electronics, that the United States society does not have to be destructive. Instead, we can learn to be generous, enlightened, and compassionate like Jesus.
— Sedona Jacobson, Young Adult UTO Board Member, Diocese of Navajoland

I support refugees because we are all God’s children, they are my brothers and sisters, and we are called to help and love one another. As the Lord said: “Love one another as I love you!”
— Lorraine Candelario, Appointed UTO Board Member, Diocese of Puerto Rico

I support refugees because:

  • My ancestor was a wandering Aramaean.
  • We are all refugees.
  • Jesus (just as well would have) said, “I was without a home and you welcomed me.”
  • I have sought and received refuge in the Christ, in the Gospel, and in the Communion of Saints and am not whole in my own refuge if I deny another their ability for wholeness and fulness of life.
  • The rules of planetary hospitality demand it.

— The Rev. Matthew Cowden, Executive Council Liaison to the UTO Board, Diocese of Northern Indiana

I support refugees because everyone deserves a chance at a better life.
— The Rev. Canon Michelle Walker, Associate Staff Officer, United Thank Offering, Diocese of Northern Indiana

I support refugees because everybody deserves a chance to have a safe and healthy life.
— Katelyn Kenney, United Thank Offering Julia Chester Emery Intern, Diocese of Texas
