Julia Chester Emery Icon – Second Edition

One of the hopes that we had when developing the icon program for Julia Chester Emery is that each image developed would be unique and would speak to us in different ways and be quite different in design. Our first icon, created by Marcy Hall, is available now for purchase. This amazing icon is colorful, whimsical and helps to tell the story of how remarkably strong, smart, and determined Emery was. I especially love all of the nods to Alaska, the diocese that Emery fought so hard to fund and include as a missionary diocese of The Episcopal Church.

As April begins, our second icon is underway by Kristen Wheeler of Modern Iconographer. Kristen is an Episcopalian in the Dicoese of Louisiana. Kristen’s background is in creative writing, photography, and painting. She loves to read and research on each saint prior to beginning and shares her work as it unfolds on social media. This month, you will get to walk along with Kristen as she creates the Julia Chester Emery icon on the UTO Facebook/Instagram sites. We’ll be sharing her work as it unfolds, and the final product will be in the May newsletter. You will be able to order prints from Kristen as well as the image on other items.
