Formation Committee member and new Board member Kim Fox contributed to the new Forward Day by Day publication for Advent, “Show Me Your Ways, O Lord: Devotions on the Psalms of Advent”.
Kim previously wrote for the Advent Word of the Day, “Fire,” in 2022.
She was also the writer for the April 2023 meditations for Forward Day by Day.
Kim is grateful that her writing was discovered by the team at Forward Day by Day and that she was invited to write for a publication she grew up reading. Kim remembers waiting eagerly for new booklets to appear in the narthex of her home parish in North Carolina, never imagining she would one day be a contributor.
Kim has also published five poetry books from national presses and has several other publications, including in “Unpapered: Writers Consider Native Identity and Belonging”.
Kim often incorporates elements of her Cherokee culture, history, and tradition in her writing and is thankful to be able to honor her heritage through her parallel vocation as a writer.
Says Kim, “I never expected my writing would branch out into religious publications, but it’s one of those things where Creator is always doing more than I could ever ask or imagine. I also think of Jeremiah: ‘I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.’ I am thankful if my God-given gift of writing can help others on their own spiritual journeys, since writing is a spiritual discipline for me. I also consider my writing an offering, and even though I might not always write on cheerful topics, I always try to find the ways in which difficult experiences can be the means by which spiritual growth and grace can occur.”
Kim has also been honored to put her writing skills to use in a previous UTO grant in environmental reparations and in a Roanridge grant for rural ministry.
