2017 Grant Site Update: First Anglican Presence on the Camino in Spain
Welcome to the Pilgrim’s Anglican Center in Pontevedra, Galicia in Spain. We are the first center of the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church on the Portuguese Camino (Way). We are located 42 miles south of Santiago de Compostela. The Portuguese Way begins in the city of Lisbon; it’s 634 km long and is the second most popular Camino in terms of the number of pilgrims. In 2017, 70,000 pilgrims on the Portuguese Way came through Pontevedra.
We opened our doors in May 2016 to welcome pilgrims from Spain and abroad. We wish to extend a warm invitation to pilgrims from The Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion. Whether you are on the Camino alone or with a group, our hospitality is always open to you.
The center has room for up to 50 people. Here, you are welcome to hold liturgical services, meet to plan the next phase of the Camino, get together for a meal, or simply join us for a cup of coffee and some good conversation. We would love to listen to your experiences of your pilgrimage. We are also available to celebrate religious services in the Anglican tradition in Spanish and English.
