time zones

  • When listing the time of an event, include the time zone (abbreviations acceptable) from where the event will take place. The webinar will be from 6 to 9 a.m. EST. The Field Days event at Camp Stevens will start at 10 a.m. PDT May 3.
  • While the preference is to include reference to daylight saving time (e.g., EDT) or standard time (e.g., CST) in time listings, it is acceptable to use ET, CT, MT, and PT instead as “catch-all” abbreviations covering whatever time (daylight saving or standard) a region is in.
  • Capitalize all words in a full time-reference that includes the zone (Eastern Standard Time, Central Daylight Time); lowercase “time” in a short reference (Mountain time).
  • Lowercase “daylight saving time” and “standard time” when they stand alone.
