Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori talks about the devastation she witnessed as a result of the January 12 earthquake. During her February 8 visit, Diocese of Haiti Bishop Jean Zaché Duracin showed the ruins and shared the church’s and country’s hope for the future.
“The devastation on the ground is as bad as you’ve seen on the news,” the Presiding Bishop said. The diocesan buildings are “crumbled, or with cracks in the walls.”
She reported that the people are still struggling, and added that the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti is currently caring for 25,000 in various camps.
“The people of Haiti are resilient,” she assured.
