Dear Friends in Christ,

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect much of our individual and corporate lives, posing a threat to the health of so many.  At this time, as states and countries consider or begin to re-open, it is important for us to remember to care for ourselves, but not for ourselves alone. The moral primacy of Jesus’ command to love God and our neighbor must guide us in all of our decisions.

In this context, our choices – however complex or difficult – are to be made mindful of the public health and well-being of ourselves and our neighbors.

Recognizing this, the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) of The Episcopal Church has met and approved the following update of the March 12, 2020 letter to DFMS staff regarding travel and meetings during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Effective June 1, 2020 and continuing through Labor Day, September 7 the following directives apply:

1. Relative to DFMS travel by staff and DFMS-retained consultants:

• All staff/consultant travel for DFMS-related work will be limited to essential travel only through Labor Day, September 7.  All travel must be approved by the supervising officer, chief, or canon.

2. Relative to meetings and conferences:

• DFMS-sponsored meetings and conferences through Labor Day, September 7, 2020 will continue to be conducted remotely via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, postponed, or cancelled.

3. Updates and contracts

• Updated directives regarding travel, meetings, and conferences after Labor Day will be issued later this summer when more public health information and advisories regarding the fall are available.
• While planning for possible meetings or conferences to be held in the fall is appropriate, planning must include alternative options in the event this prohibition is continued through the fall. No contractual agreements for the fall should be finalized until some level of approval for meeting and conferences is communicated.

May the words of the Apostle Paul ring loudly and true in our hearts, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.”  (2 Cor 1:3-4)

Actualización sobre los viajes del personal de DFMS y las reuniones patrocinadas durante la pandemia del coronavirus

Estimados amigos en Cristo,

La pandemia COVID-19 sigue afectando a gran parte de nuestra vida individual y corporativa, lo que representa una amenaza para la salud de tantos.  En este momento, a medida que los Estados y los países consideran o comienzan a reabrir, es importante que recordemos cuidaron bien, pero no solamente a nosotros mismos. La primacía moral del mandato de Jesús de amar a Dios y a nuestro prójimo debe guiarnos en todas nuestras decisiones.

En este contexto, nuestras decisiones, por complejas o difíciles que sean, deben ser conscientes de la salud pública y de nuestro propio bienestar así como el del prójimo.

Reconociendo esto, el Equipo de Liderazgo Ejecutivo (ELT, por sus siglas en inglés) de la Iglesia Episcopal se ha reunido y aprobado la siguiente actualización de la carta del 12 de marzo de 2020 al personal de la DFMS sobre viajes y reuniones durante la pandemia del Coronavirus.

A partir del 1 de junio de 2020 y continuando hasta el Día del Trabajo, el 7 de septiembre, se aplican las siguientes directivas:

1. En relación con los viajes de DFMS por personal y consultores retenidos por DFMS:

• Todos los viajes de trabajo relativos a la DFMS para el personal y consultores se limitarán a solamente viajes esenciales hasta el Día del Trabajo, el 7 de septiembre.  Cada viaje deben ser aprobado por el supervisor, jefe o canónigo.

2. En relación con las reuniones y conferencias:

• Las reuniones y conferencias patrocinadas por DFMS hasta el Día del Trabajo, el 7 de septiembre de 2020, continuarán realizándose de forma remota a través de Zoom o Microsoft Teams, o se postergarán o cancelarán.

3. Actualizaciones y contratos

• Las directivas actualizadas sobre viajes, reuniones y conferencias después del Día del Trabajo se publicarán a finales de este verano cuando haya más información y avisos de salud pública sobre el otoño.
• Si bien la planificación de las reuniones o conferencias que posiblemente se llevarían a cabo en otoño es apropiada, la planificación debe incluir otras opciones en caso de que esta prohibición continúe hasta el otoño. No se deben formalizar los acuerdos contractuales para el otoño hasta que se comunique algún nivel de aprobación para las reuniones y conferencias.

Que seamos las bendiciones de Dios e instrumentos del amor de Dios. Que las palabras del apóstol Pablo repiquen en voz alta y verdadera en nuestro corazón: “Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre de misericordias y Dios de toda consolación, el cual nos consuela en todas nuestras tribulaciones, para que podamos también nosotros consolar a los que están en cualquier tribulación, por medio de la consolación con que nosotros somos consolados por Dios.”  (2 Co 1:3-4)
