Planning Team applications accepted for Young Adult Festival at General Convention 2018

Applications are now accepted for planning team members for the General Convention Young Adult Festival, scheduled to run concurrently with the 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Austin, TX (Diocese of Texas). The Young Adult Festival will be held July 4-9, 2018 in Austin, TX.

The Young Adult Festival is designed for young adults 18-30 years old to meet peers from across the globe, pray and learn together, engage in the church’s legislative process, and help discern God’s call for the Episcopal Church. The Planning Team will develop the elements of the Young Adult Festival, including workshops, speakers, and schedule.

“The planning team will work together to create a framework for young adults from across the church to experience General Convention,” explained the Rev. Shannon Kelly, Episcopal Church Officer for Young Adult and Campus Ministries. “With worship, workshops, networking, and housing, the festival makes General Convention accessible and enjoyable for rookies, advocates, and leaders alike.”

Planning team members must be 18+ years old (high school graduate) and must be able to attend a planning meeting April 5-8, 2018 as well as be at General Convention July 3-9, 2018 in Austin, TX.

General Convention

The Episcopal Church’s General Convention is held every three years to consider the legislative business of the church.  General Convention is the bicameral governing body of the Church, comprised of the House of Bishops, with upwards of 200 active and retired bishops, and the House of Deputies, with clergy and lay deputies elected from the 109 dioceses and three regional areas of the Church, at more than 800 members. Between Conventions, the General Convention continues to work through its committees and commissions.  The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church carries out the programs and policies adopted by General Convention.
