April 4, 2024
Office of Public Affairs

Journalists and communications professionals wishing to cover the 81st General Convention of The Episcopal Church—June 23-28 in Louisville, Kentucky—may apply online now for media credentials.

Credentials are intended for professional journalists and communications staff from dioceses, churches, and other Episcopal organizations.

Please note that communications staff from a diocese, church, or other Episcopal organization should first go through the visitor registration process, then apply online separately for media credentials through the Office of Public Affairs.

In-person media credentials require a $150 registration fee, which is the rate set by the Joint Standing Committee on Planning and Arrangements for all visitors.

Professional journalists should apply online directly for credentials, and the Office of Public Affairs will cover the required registration fee for those credentialed.

Applicants should indicate which type of media credential they want:

  • Onsite: For those attending in person; provides access to designated media areas in the House of Bishops and House of Deputies during legislative sessions, as well as access to press conferences and spaces designated for media to work.
  • Virtual: For those only able to attend online; gives access to all legislative sessions, worship services, and press conferences. There is no registration fee for this option.

  • Hybrid: For those attending in person but also want virtual access.

In addition to the above listings, media credential holders also will have special access to an interview room set up with cameras and lighting; daily professional photographs; Wi-Fi and other support services.

About General Convention
The Episcopal Church’s General Convention is held every three years to consider the legislative business of the church. General Convention is the bicameral governing body of the church, composed of the House of Bishops, with more than 200 active and retired bishops; and the House of Deputies, with clergy and lay deputies elected from the 109 dioceses and three regional areas of the church, at more than 800 members. Between conventions, the General Convention continues to work through its committees and commissions. The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church carries out the programs and policies adopted by General Convention.
