Keynote speakers join Presiding Bishop at Episcopal Church Conference on Domestic Poverty
The groundbreaking conference will provide an in-depth exploration of the nature of domestic poverty and the Church”s role in addressing this ubiquitous national issue on Wednesday to Friday, April 28 30 in Newark, NJ.
Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori, in her Wednesday address “Called to Serve How can we respond to domestic poverty?” will map out the steps and points needed to work together on domestic poverty.
Chuck Fluharty, founder of the Rural Policy Research Institute, will speak about Poverty Alleviation & Rural/Urban Partnerships on Thursday in his address “Poverty, Place, and Public Policy: Rethinking the Rural/Urban Dialectic.”
“A Life of Being, Having, and Doing Enough” will be presented by nationally renowned author, therapist, and minister Wayne Muller, and will include insights from his recent book of the same name.
Other speakers include Kristen Lewis presenting “The American Human Development Project Report, The Measure of America.” Also, a culturally diverse panel discussion will be offered focusing on the affects of poverty on identity.
Debut of Documentary
On Wednesday, The Episcopal Church will debut a groundbreaking documentary on domestic poverty, produced by the Office of Communication. The film will focus on the remarkable work of Jubilee Park in Dallas, TX, which provides an array of services, from job training to voter registration and food services, to Dallas residents living below the poverty level.
