On behalf of Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, Bishop Stacy Sauls, Chief Operating Officer of The Episcopal Church, has announced the appointment of the JoAnne Brockway as Controller on the staff of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (DFMS).
In the position, Brockway will manage and coordinate the overall activities of the Controller’s Office which performs all of the accounting functions for the DFMS including cash receipts, accounts payable, payroll, cash disbursements, account and diocesan receivables and grants payable. The Controller is responsible for compiling and preparing financial reports for DFMS management and the Society’s Audit Committee. The Controller also assists the Treasurer and CFO in the development of budgets and forecasts and establishing and enhancing internal controls and processes.
Brockway was selected following an extensive search by a professional human resources firm which garnered more than 40 resumes, resulting in a dozen interviews. The DFMS’s independent audit firm also participated extensively in the process and interviews.
The appointment was unanimously approved by the Executive Committee of Executive Council. The Audit Committee unanimously agreed with this recommendation before it was presented to the Executive Council of Executive Committee.
Since May, Brockway has served at the Episcopal Church offices as a part-time consultant provided by AMSolutions, a firm that provides outsourced accounting and financial management services. Previously, Brockway has held positions in for-profit and nonprofit organizations for 30 years. She has also been a small business owner. She holds an accounting degree from Long Island University and CPA designation in the State of New York.
Her office is based at the Church Center in New York City. She can be reached here.
The By-Laws of Executive Council direct that: The Chair shall appoint, in consultation with the Joint Audit Committee of the Council and the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society and the consent of the Council, a Controller, who shall perform the duties of that office as prescribed by the Council.
