General Convention 2024 location announced
The 81st General Convention of The Episcopal Church will be held in July 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky (Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky).
The decision was presented by the Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, executive officer of General Convention and chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Planning and Arrangements, to the Executive Council at their February 2020 meeting at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center in Salt Lake City, Utah (Episcopal Diocese of Utah).
Barlowe said, “It was a very difficult decision. Any of our three finalist cities would have been an excellent place for General Convention to meet, and each city welcomed the opportunity with enthusiasm. In the end, Louisville emerged as our choice for several reasons, including the fact that General Convention had not met in Province IV since 1982, and that 2024 will be the final one for Presiding Bishop Curry in this role. Louisville is within a day’s drive of many in The Episcopal Church, and we are expecting a large turnout to mark his retirement and to elect his successor.”
Barlowe explained that approval by Executive Council is among the steps in the selection of a location for General Convention. As required by canon, the decision needs to be approved by the majority of the presidents and vice presidents of the House of Bishops and House of Deputies, the presidents of the Provinces, and the Executive Council. Barlowe announced that the majority of those required consents have now been received.

White, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky, “Along with our siblings in the Diocese of Lexington and in all the dioceses of Province IV, we look forward to extending a warm welcome to all deputies, bishops, visitors, guests, volunteers, and staff, and to share gracious hospitality, Kentucky-style. There will be so many opportunities to taste and see how gracious is our God of Love! We are grateful for this opportunity to serve.”
The General Convention is the governing body of The Episcopal Church that meets every three years. It is a bicameral legislature that includes the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies, composed of bishops and deputies from each diocese. During its triennial meeting bishops and deputies consider a wide range of important matters facing the Church. In the interim between triennial meetings, various committees, commissions, agencies, boards and task forces created by the General Convention meet to implement the decisions and carry on the work of the General Convention.
The 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church will be held June 30 – July 9, 2021 at The Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland (Episcopal Diocese of Maryland).

Barlowe dijo: “Fue una decisión muy difícil.
