June 30, 2011
Office of Public Affairs

The office of Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and Bishop Jean Zaché Duracin of the Diocese of Haiti announce that the election of a Bishop Suffragan for the Diocese of Haiti will be held on Friday, August 5.

This marks the first time that the Diocese of Haiti will elect a Bishop Suffragan. The required majority of consents for this new position were secured in May from bishops with jurisdiction and standing committees of the church.

The Bishop Suffragan will assist Bishop Duracin as he serves the needs of the people and clergy of the diocese, the largest diocese in the Episcopal Church, which continues to recover from a devastating January 2010 earthquake.

For more information contact Bishop Clay Matthews, Office of Pastoral Development, cmatthews@episcopalchurch.org.

The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ in 109 dioceses and three regional areas in 16 nations. The Episcopal Church is a member province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
