Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori on the passing of Bishop Robert Anderson
Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori on the passing of Bishop Robert Anderson:
The Episcopal Church has lost a great soul. Bishop Anderson prodded and led this Church in the midst of many highly significant concerns. He was a leader in developing effective responses to sexual misconduct. He was a tireless advocate for Native Americans throughout his ministry. I have powerful memories of his account of a labor action in southern California, when marchers left bitter herbs in front of hotels who werenât treating their workers with dignity and justice. He told the story filled with both outrage at the injustice and glee at the creative response. That combination of passion and joy characterized his ministry. We will miss his prophetic voice and presence, but I am sure his ministry will continue to resound among us â” and probably in the heavenly courts. May he rest in peace and rise in glory, and may all those who mourn find comfort. He has joined the communion of saints.
