Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori invited to Anglican Province of South Africa
Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has accepted the gracious invitation of the Most Rev. Thabo Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa, and Primate of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, to visit and preach in September.
“I look forward to visiting the Province of Southern Africa, and spending enough time to learn more about the local context, and the challenges and opportunities the Church faces,” Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori commented. “I was in South Africa several years ago for a pan-Anglican mission conference, but had little opportunity then to learn more about the local Church. Face to face meetings, like the one I will have with the bishops of that province, allow for much more effective conversation and learning than reading what others have written. Dialogue is central to who we are as Christians, and I am grateful for this invitation to share Word and words together. “
Among her activities and meetings, Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori will preach and preside at the September 25 Eucharist at the Cathedral and will address the Synod of Bishops meeting on September 26.
The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ in 109 dioceses and three regional areas in 16 nations. The Episcopal Church is a member province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
