Episcopal Church Interim Legal Counsel named

 Paul Nix of Atlanta, GA has been named interim Legal Counsel for the Episcopal Church to fill the post vacated by the retirement of Tom Duggan, Esq., at the end of 2011.  Nix will hold the position until a search for a permanent Legal Counsel is conducted following the 77th General Convention in July.

The appointment, effective January 9, was made by Bishop Stacy F. Sauls, Chief Operating Officer for the Episcopal Church.

Among Nix’s responsibilities will be to offer legal assistance on various projects and provide oversight on contracts, negotiations, and human resources matters, an area to which he brings considerable experience.

Sauls will assemble a search committee that will advise on the selection and appointment of the permanent Legal Counsel following the July 13 conclusion of General Convention.

 

Meet Paul Nix

Most recently, Nix was Vice-President – Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Ricoh Americas Corporation in Atlanta. He also served on the legal staff of Lanier Worldwide, Inc., in Atlanta, where he was General Counsel, and the legal staff of Harris Corporation, Melbourne, FL.  He was associated with the Columbia, South Carolina firm of McNair, Glenn, Konduros, Corley, Singletary, Porter & Dibble, P.A. He was a law clerk for the United States District Court; Charleston, SC. 

Nix is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a member of the Law Review. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Philosophy, Furman University, Greenville, SC. He is a member of the state bars of  South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia

 He is a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta.
