The standing committees and bishops exercising jurisdiction have given the required majority of consents to the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas for its Oct. 19 election of the Rev. Angela Maria Cortiñas as bishop suffragan. Her ordination is scheduled for March 15 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in McAllen, Texas.

Cortiñas serves as associate rector of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas, and was previously rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in College Station, Texas. She began her ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church in Southeast Florida, where she was ordained a deacon in 2009 and a priest in 2010.

In giving consent to Cortiñas’s ordination and consecration as bishop suffragan, standing committees and bishops exercising jurisdiction in The Episcopal Church attest to knowing of “no impediment on account of which” Bishop-elect Cortiñas ought not be ordained as bishop, and that her election was conducted in accordance with the canons. The consent process is detailed in Canon III.11.3.
