Are you an Episcopal youth, or know one who would like to learn about the governance of the church while providing a needed service? Then consider the Episcopal Youth Presence at General Convention 2012.

Eighteen positions, representing two from each Province of the Episcopal Church, are opened to youth to participate in the 77th General Convention, scheduled for July 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana July 5 to July 12.

Bronwyn Clark Skov, Episcopal Church Officer for Youth Ministries, addressed both the importance and the honor of these positions. “The General Convention Official Youth Presence was established by an initial resolution in 1982,” she explained. “The Official Youth Presence members have seat and voice on the floor of the House of Deputies during the legislative sessions and that is an exciting prospect for the youth of our church.”

Process
Interested youth may apply or be nominated by an adult. The Provincial Youth Ministry Coordinators will be contacting adults with follow-up questions about the potential applicants.

Eligibility
To be eligible for one of the 18 positions, the youth must:
– be an Episcopalian active in his/her faith community
– be at least 16 years old but not more than 19 years old at the time of General Convention in July 2012
– be enrolled in high school during the 2011/2012 academic year
 – have permission to travel to and from the meetings and General Convention on his/her own
– be able to attend training from April 12 to April 15 in Indianapolis
– be able to be present at General Convention 2012 in Indianapolis from Thursday, July 5 to Thursday, July 12.

Travel, lodging and meal expenses are covered.

¿Eres un joven episcopal, o conoces a alguien que te gustaría aprendiera acerca de la política de la Iglesia mientras que proporciona un servicio necesario? Entonces considera la presencia de jóvenes episcopales en la Convención General de 2012.

Dieciocho posiciones, que representan a dos de cada provincia de la Iglesia Episcopal, están abiertas para que los jóvenes participen en la 77ma Convención General, prevista para julio de 2012 en Indianápolis, Indiana, del 5 al 12 de julio.

Bronwyn Clark Skov, oficial del Ministerio Juvenil de la Iglesia Episcopal, indicó la importancia y el honor de estas posiciones. “La presencia oficial de la juventud en la Convención General fue establecida por una resolución inicial en el año 1982”, explicó. “Los diputados de la presencia oficial de la juventud tienen asiento y voz en el pleno de la Cámara de los Diputados durante las sesiones legislativas y eso es una perspectiva muy interesante para los jóvenes de nuestra Iglesia”.

Elegibilidad
Para ser elegible para uno de los 18 puestos, el joven debe:
– Ser un episcopal activo en su comunidad de fe
– Tener al menos 16 años de edad pero no más de 19 en el momento de la Convención General en julio de 2012
– Estar matriculado en la escuela secundaria durante el año académico de 2011/2012
– Tener permiso para viajar por sí mismo a reuniones y a la Convención General
– Poder asistir al entrenamiento del jueves 12 al domingo 15 de abril en Indianápolis
– Poder estar presente en la Convención General en Indianápolis, IN, del jueves 5  al jueves 12 de julio de 2012

Los gastos de viaje, alojamiento y comida están cubiertos.
