It’s Not Over Until It’s Over!

Kathy Mank, UTO Financial Secretary

My late Dad loved baseball and the characters in it. For many years, I heard about Yogi Berra’s idioms. Yogi, aka Lawrence Peter, was a legendary NY Yankees catcher, coach, and manager. In addition to “It ain’t over till it’s over,” other Yogisms were, “The future ain’t what it used to be”; “No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded”; and “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.”

The impact of your gratitude and thank offerings that UTO receives never ends – it’s never “over.” The tangible offerings are invested in innovative and transformational ministries in the Church that continue to bless their communities indefinitely. However, to be able to grant your thank offerings, we do need a deadline, a time when it is really “over.” For our regular 2021 granting cycle, monetary thank offerings by check should be mailed no later than December 1, 2020 in order to be assured of receipt and acknowledgement by UTO. Please make your treasurers aware of this deadline. For online giving and text to give, the deadline to submit an electronic thank offering is December 29, 2020, to allow for processing time.

UTO is never too crowded and invites all Church members to participate. We encourage parishes and dioceses to hold Ingatherings; however, many individuals find making thank offerings in a Blue Box or online to be a daily or weekly spiritual practice. If you are new to UTO and have any questions about what UTO is or how to develop a spiritual discipline involving thank offerings, please check the UTO blog and website. We are in the process of preparing an educational section of FAQs, with our Julia Chester Emery Intern Isabelle taking the lead on this dynamic and interactive exposition of UTO.

To know where to send your offerings so they end up with UTO, please refer to the three methods and their directions in the above image. We want to make sure your thank offerings land with UTO and not someplace else.

It’s over on December 1, 2020 for checks sent to the lockbox.
It’s over on December 29, 2020 for electronic receipts from online and text giving.
