National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding Schools

September 30th is the National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding Schools, a day to pause and reflect on those who attended Indigenous boarding schools and those who never returned home. The Episcopal Church has committed to understanding its role in this painful history and has established two commissions to begin the process of carrying out this work, the commission established by A127 and the Executive Council Committee for Indigenous Boarding Schools and Advocacy.

The Department of the Interior is also investing in unearthing the truth about boarding schools and has published two reports detailing the policies and practices around these schools.

To support efforts at truth-telling and healing, please write your members of Congress telling them to co-sponsor the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies Act.

Check out The Episcopal Church Office of Indigenous Ministries and the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS) for more resources.
