The Episcopal Church of Liberia
Liberia has had a unique and complicated relationship with the United States from the country’s creation by the American Colonization Society and its independence in 1847. The relationship between the Episcopal Church of Liberia and The Episcopal Church of the United States began in 1836 with the sending of missionaries and the establishment of an Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church of Liberia became independent from The Episcopal Church in 1979, marked by a Covenant Agreement that was adopted at their respective Conventions.
