How do our children dream?

By now you’ve heard the story about Malala Yousafzai, the teenaged girl who was shot down by the Taliban for speaking up for her rights. If not, read the article from the New York Times, Taliban Gun Down Girl Who Spoke Up For Rights.

Malala’s story has brought so many questions to my mind.

How do our children dream? What do our children dream about? How do we help them dream?

Are we staying at the “safer” surface or do we go to the deeper level, like Malala?

Have we allowed our western privilege to take away our children’s ability to dream, deep; to dream big?

How are we nurturing our children about: what freedom means? Do they really understand the value – not the burden – of education?

How do we define privilege? And what do children who are not “of privilege” dream about?

Perhaps some of our children dream that they will not be caught in a drive-by shooting. Or maybe they dream that the domestic violence in their home will stop.

There are many children who dream deep, who are young activists, who are not at the risk level of Malala but are challenging people of all ages to act.

Please share your stories of  children you know who dream deep and who take action to fulfill  those dreams so their stories can be shared with others.

Inspire us all.
