TEXAS: Bishop to throw out first pitch at Astros' annual 'Episcopal Night'

May 23, 2007

Bishop Don A. Wimberly of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas will throw out the first pitch at the fifth annual Episcopal Night. The July 3 Houston Astros vs. Philadelphia Phillies game at Minute Maid Park will begin at 7:05 p.m. after Wimberly's 6:50 p.m. pitch.

Thousands of Episcopalians from all over the diocese, which is made up of 49,489 square miles, are expected to attend the game hoping to break their record of 5,000 in attendance in previous years.

A portion of each ticket sold will benefit the work of the "We Are One Church" campaign, which raises funds to build new churches in underserved areas of the diocese and strengthens existing congregations.

The Episcopal High School Choir will lead the crowd in the National Anthem.
