Shelagh Casey Brown has been appointed director of alumni, annual fund and church relations in the Office of Institutional Advancement at Virginia Theological Seminary, according to a Sept. 1 release from the school.
Casey Brown has had extensive experience in fundraising, program leadership, and management, including 19 years at the College of Preachers and Washington National Cathedral, where her work included fundraising, communications, public events, and program development and oversight, according to the release. As associate warden of the College of Preachers she oversaw the life and operations of the College's residential preaching programs, fellows program, major public lectures and special events, and other educational programs in theology, spirituality, and Christian formation.
Before joining the Cathedral, she was on the staff of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, managing its annual convention and other conferences and events. She was also staff officer for the American Conference of Academic Deans.
She has served as a member of the board of the Washington Theological Consortium for several years and was recently elected chair of the board for the 2011-2012 academic year, the release said.
"The role of the director of alumni is to develop meaningful ways for alumni and churches to engage with and support the mission of the seminary while strengthening the institution's financial health through a robust annual fund program," said the Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, dean and president of VTS. "Shelagh's skills and experience will serve her well in her work as part of the institutional advancement team."
