January 30, 2011

The Rev. Amity Carrubba will become the new executive director of the Chicago, Illinois-based Episcopal Service Corps on Feb. 1, according to a press release.

Carrubba currently serves as associate rector of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Elgin, Illinois. She brings with her experience both in launching the Julian Year, a year-long ECS internship program in Chicago, and as an AmeriCorps alumna. Carrubba is a graduate of Episcopal Divinity School, the release said.

"The board believes she brings with her the experience, passions and gifts necessary to launch the next stage of our growth," according to the release.

"I got to know Amity at last year's consultation, and her passion for the work of ESC was immediately evident," said the Rev. Jason Cox, program director of the Episcopal Urban Intern Program in Inglewood, California (Diocese of Los Angeles), and a member of the ECS board, in the release.

ECS is a federation of 17 young adult service programs across the United States. ESC "creates diverse communities that strive to diminish the boundaries that frequently divide humanity by providing opportunities for young adults of various backgrounds to work for social justice; deepen spiritual awareness and discern vocation; develop leadership skills in the paradigm of servant leadership; and live a simple, sustainable lifestyle," according to the release.
