Church of Ireland clergy support Episcopal Church following Primates Meeting

February 2, 2016

[Episcopal News Service] Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has received a letter of support from clergy in the Church of Ireland following the recent Primates Meeting in Canterbury. The letter (posted on Episcopal Café here) is reportedly signed by 55 clergy who have disassociated themselves from the statement the primates issued during their Jan. 11-15 meeting. The primates’ statement said that the Episcopal Church should not take part in decision-making on any issues pertaining to doctrine or polity or serve on ecumenical and interfaith bodies for a period of three years. The primates said their action came as a direct response to the decision by the Episcopal Church’s General Convention last July to change canonical language that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman (Resolution A036).
