Independent organizations around the world work to eradicate human trafficking and deal with the damage it causes. They raise awareness, advocate, empower victims, and work to eliminate the trafficking of persons.
It’s the illegal trade of human beings. It’s the recruitment, control, and use of people for their bodies and for their labor. Through force, fraud, and coercion, people everywhere are being bought and sold against their will–right now in the 21st century.
Florida has been identified as a hub for human trafficking activity, citing one of the highest incidences of human trafficking in the country. This crime affects all types of individuals, both foreign and domestic.
Our Mission: Liberating slaves and changing the conditions that allow slavery to persist. Slavery is the result of vulnerability. It flourishes where people cannot meet their basic needs and lack economic opportunity, education, health care, and honest government.

The HTC’s goal is to use academic rigor, sound methodology, and reliable data to promote understanding of human trafficking and its causes, conditions, and cures. We build cooperation and community between academic institutions and the public and private sector to accomplish these goals.
Slavery is not a thing of the past. There are more slaves in the world today than at any point in history. Young girls are often forced or deceived to leave their homes, usually with the promises of marriage or money, only to be sold, raped, tortured, or imprisoned.
Polaris is named for the North Star, which people held in slavery in the United States used as a guide to navigating their way toward freedom. Today we are filling in the roadmap for that journey and lighting the path ahead.
