St Thomas Choir School, New York City

A boarding school for boys in fifth through eighth grades who sing in the choir of St. Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue in New York City. It was founded in 1919 under the direction of Dr. T. Tertius Noble, organist and choirmaster at St. Thomas Church. It is one of the few remaining choir schools of the type associated with English cathedrals. The school seeks to provide opportunities for religious preparation and growth in a caring, Christian community. The Choir School is owned by St. Thomas Church, and directed by a Board of Trustees including the rector, wardens, and vestry of the church. The operation of the school is supervised by the Choir School Committee. Gordon Roland-Adams joined the Choir School as headmaster in the fall of 1997.
