Seabury Series, The

A comprehensive parish education program of the Episcopal Church that was published between 1948 and 1970. The program included a series of six basic books, The Church's Teaching Series, which became the foundational subject matter resource of the adult materials and of the publications for Sunday church school. These materials were published by the Seabury Press, and known as “The Seabury Series.” An essential part of the total program was leadership training, which included basic training courses for clergy and lay leaders at the College of Preachers (Washington Cathedral), mobile training teams that visited dioceses for eight years, weekend parish life conferences providing basic training for parish leaders, and a two-week laboratory training program that enrolled more than 2,600 clergy and lay leaders, including a special lab for bishops.
