Micou, Richard Wilde

(June 12, 1848-June 4, 1912). Theologian and seminary professor. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Micou studied at the Universities of Georgia, Alabama, Erlangen, Bavaria, Edinburgh, and the General Theological Seminary. He was ordained deacon on June 12, 1870, and priest on Nov. 16, 1872. Micou was assistant minister at St. John's Church, Montgomery, Alabama, 1870-1871; rector of St. Mary's Church, Franklin, Louisiana, 1871-1874; and rector of St. Paul's Church, Kittanning, Pennsylvania, 1874-1877. From 1877 until 1892, he was rector of Trinity Church, Waterbury, Connecticut. Micou was Professor of Systematic Theology at the Philadelphia Divinity School, 1892-1898. His major position was Professor of Fundamental Theology and Systematic Divinity at the Virginia Theological Seminary from 1898 until his death. His two major books are Manual of Fundamental Theology and Christian Apologetics (1907), and Basic Ideas in Religion, or Apologetic Theism (1916). This last volume was edited by his son Paul Micou. Micou died in Alexandria, Virginia.
