McConnell, Samuel David
(Aug. 1, 1845-Jan. 11, 1939). Church historian. He was born in West Moreland County, Pennsylvania. McConnell received his B.A. from Washington and Jefferson College in 1869. He was ordained deacon on June 18, 1871, and priest on June 12, 1872. McConnell was rector of Christ Church, Watertown, Connecticut, 1873-1876; of Holy Trinity Church, Middletown, Connecticut, 1876-1882; and of St. Stephen's Church, Philadelphia, 1882-1896. From 1896 until 1902, he was rector of Holy Trinity Church, Brooklyn. He served as rector of All Souls Church, New York City, from 1902 until his retirement in 1905. In 1890 McConnell published History of the American Episcopal Church. This was one of the earliest histories of the Episcopal Church. It appeared in at least eleven editions. He died in Easton, Maryland.
