Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, The

A collection of services and prayers for devotional occasions. It was first published in 1933 by Oxford University Press. It was subtitled “Services of Praise and Prayer for occasional Use in Churches.” It was an American edition of the third volume of The Grey Book, a proposed revision of the English Prayer Book which was never adopted. Its occasional devotions include sections for acts of adoration, acts of recollection and self-examination, short services for the church year, litanies of intercession, acts of praise and thanksgiving, and prayers. It was recommended for use by the 1934 General Convention. It may be understood to be a precursor of the BOS. The section of prayers includes numbered prayers for special gifts and graces, for use on special occasions, intercessions, and commendations and benedictions. This section may be likened to the collection of occasional prayers in the BCP (pp. 814-835).
