Kelleran, Marion Macdonald

(Apr. 20, 1905-June 27, 1985). Leader of the Anglican Communion and seminary professor. She was born in Byng Inlet, Ontario, Canada. Kelleran received her B.A. in 1926 from the University of Buffalo and did graduate study at Union Theological Seminary, New York, Harvard University, and the Episcopal Divinity School. She married the Rev. Harold C. Kelleran in 1934. She was director of Christian education for the Diocese of Washington, 1946-1962; and associate professor and then professor of Christian education and pastoral theology at Virginia Theological Seminary, 1963-1973. She was a founding member of the Anglican Consultative Council, and became chairwoman of the council in 1973. She was also a member of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church. As council chairwoman, she was the only woman among more than 440 men at the 1978 Lambeth Conference. Kelleran was recognized as an innovative educator, a missionary, and a leader of international Anglicanism. She retired from the Virginia Seminary faculty in 1973. Kelleran died in Alexandria, Virginia.
