Gordon, Quinland Reeves

(June 6, 1925-Jan. 3, 1990). African American theological educator. He was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from Wilberforce University in 1945 and from the Episcopal Theological School in 1947. He was ordained deacon on Mar. 31, 1949, and priest on Oct. 31, 1949. He was rector of the Church of the Atonement, Washington, D.C., 1949-1965, and associate secretary of the Division of Christian Citizenship of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church. From 1971 to 1978, he was the first and only dean of the Absalom Jones Theological Institute, Atlanta. Gordon was vicar of St. Luke's Church, Fort Valley, Georgia, 1978-1980. Gordon served as canon for outreach at St. Philip's Cathedral, Atlanta, 1981-1985. He died in Atlanta.
