Dykman, Jackson Annan

(July 11, 1887-Feb. 7, 1983). Canon lawyer. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. Dykman received his B.A. from Yale University in 1909, and his LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1912. He was admitted to the New York bar in 1913. Dykman was chancellor of the Diocese of Long Island, 1925-1952, and a member of its Standing Committee, 1922-1962. He was a member of the National Council of the Episcopal Church from 1943 until 1949. In 1924 Edwin Augustine White wrote Constitution and Canons for the Government of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, Adopted in General Conventions, 1789-1922, Annotated, with an Exposition of the Same, and Reports of Such Cases as Have Arisen and Been Decided Thereunder. The General Convention of 1949 added Dykman to the Joint Committee to Supervise Publication of a New Annotated Edition of the Constitution and Canons. Dykman took the lead revising White's volume. The new edition was published in 1954 with the title Annotated Constitution and Canons for the Government of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, Adopted in General Conventions, 1789-1952, 2d ed., 2 vols. Dykman died in Jacksonville, Illinois.
