The Episcopal Church welcomed the Most Rev. Sean Rowe as its 28th presiding bishop in a scaled-down investiture service in New York on Nov. 2.
Participating bishops included those elected respectively by each of the nine internal provinces, as well as four representatives each from the Asian American community, African American community, Hispanic American community, and Indigenous community, as well as the presiding bishop-elect’s family and a few friends. There were four ecumenical/interreligious participants: The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; the Rev. David E. Bennett, president of the Provincial Elders’ Conference for the Moravian Church; Rabbi Esther L. Lederman of the Union for Reform Judaism; and Mohamed Elsanousi, a Muslim leader and member of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. Four individuals representing the Anglican Communion were also present: the Rev. Anthony Poggo as secretary general; the Rev. Sammy Wainaina+ from Lambeth Palace (representing the Archbishop of Canterbury); Bishop Mark Strange of Scotland; and Bishop Marinez Bassotto of Brazil (newly elected primate of the Americas).
