Interfaith Engagement in Preventing Violence Against Places of Worship
In January, 10 faith organizations wrote a letter asking President Biden to increase appropriations to FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) from $180 million to $360 million. On March 9 as part of the omnibus appropriations bill, the NSGP was set at $250 million for the 2022 fiscal year. These additional funds will help improve and ensure safety precautions in houses of worship, religious schools, community centers, and charities. Fewer than half of applicants in 2021 received funding, and with increased attacks on places of worship around the country, it is crucial to provide funding so people may practice their beliefs in a safe environment.
