Deradicalization and Resources to Oppose Christian Nationalism
In January, Executive Council directed Episcopal Church staff to look at possibilities for deradicalization and addressing white supremacy and Christian nationalism. Since that time, ecumenical and interreligious affairs, in partnership with the Office of Government Relations and colleagues from around the church, have begun to research how we can better understand the threat of violent extremism in our communities and how we can address them. We are in touch with ecumenical and interreligious partners to learn from their experiences and hope to provide resources for our own church.
The Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations and its partners are investigating the influences behind the Capitol riots in January and other expressions of radicalism and Christian nationalism in our country. We have compiled resources that begin to explore why these things have happened and how to ensure they do not happen again.
