Kirk Alan Kubicek
The Rev. Kirk Alan Kubicek has had the privilege of writing for Sermons That Work almost from its inception. He is currently priest-in-charge of a Small But Mighty congregation in the Diocese of Maryland: Christ Church Forest Hill, Rock Spring Parish. Kubicek just celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, and is still running or walking with weights every morning, writing poetry, and playing music. He is in his eleventh year playing drums and harmonica for On The Bus, a Grateful Dead tribute band in the DC/Baltimore Metro region. He just welcomed his third grandchild into the world and loves every minute of being Papi K. Life is good in Christ’s Beloved Community! All shall be well, all shall be well, all manner of thing shall be well.
Sermons and Bible Studies
God’s Passion, Our Passion, Good Friday – 2014
Each year, year after year after year, Christians gather on Good Friday to rehearse this story – what we call the Passion Narrative. On Palm Sunday we read versions from […]
Awakening to God’s Presence, Proper 27 (A) – 2014
Archbishop William Temple said, “The source of humility is the habit of realizing the presence of God.” We may as well face it, none of us likes to wait. Modern […]
Sowing the Word of God, Proper 10 (A) – 2014
“You are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you.” (Romans 8:9) We don’t often think of it, but of all the New Testament literature, St. Paul’s […]
Welcoming the Light, Christmas 2 – 2014
We find ourselves in the gospel landscape of Matthew. It is a story of angelic messages delivered in dreams. It is a story without shepherds, without a manger, with no […]
The Living, Active Word, Proper 16 (C) – 2013
In our reading from Hebrews today, the Word of God is described as “living” and “active.” That is, the Word of God is not dead and static. Because we tend […]
Those Who Give Back, The Transfiguration – 2013
Immediately leading into this story of the Transfiguration is Peter’s confession, followed by Jesus telling the disciples he is going to Jerusalem where he will die, and an important teaching […]
An In-Between Place, Easter 7 (C) – 2013
The Seventh Sunday of Easter always seems to be a sort of in-between place; the Feast of the Ascension was celebrated just a few days ago, and Pentecost is still […]
Of Cabbages and Kings, Proper 12 (B) – 2012
The world is a hungry place. People are hungry for food, for jobs, for love, for care, for leadership that cares. The list of our hunger goes on and on. […]
Bible Study: Easter 4 (B) – 2012
The lessons for this Fourth Sunday of Easter are surprisingly synergistic. The Good Shepherd passage, which is divided up over the three-year lectionary cycle, is just one of several “I […]
To the Beginning of Time, Christmas 1 – 2012
Love Christmas. Love this Gospel. For this is John’s Christmas story. Or perhaps it makes more sense to say that this is John’s version of the Incarnation. No shepherds, no […]
Salted With Fire, Proper 21 (B) – 2012
What starts out with the disciples trying to score points with Jesus for stopping someone who is doing the work of the kingdom – healing and casting out demons – […]
Only One Voice Calls Us Each By Name, Easter 4 (B) – 2012
As is often the case, what is not included in our lessons may be of utmost importance in our hearing what is going on in these lessons. For instance, in […]
