MEDIA ADVISORY: First woman bishop for Episcopal Armed Forces and Federal Ministries to be consecrated Sept. 30
The Rev. Ann Ritonia will be consecrated as bishop suffragan for Episcopal Armed Forces and Federal Ministries during an 11 a.m. ET service Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square, in Washington, D.C. She will be the first woman to serve in that role in the ministry’s nearly 60-year history.

Following a surgery last week to remove an adrenal gland and attached mass, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has been moved from the intensive care unit of the hospital to a standard hospital room. He will continue his recovery there, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The Episcopal Church’s newly released 2022 Parochial Report indicates signs of rebounding attendance after the COVID-19 pandemic, the impacts of which continue to present significant challenges for parishes. The report also shows that despite an overall trend in declining church membership, collective congregational giving remains steady.

Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry underwent a scheduled surgery today. He is out of surgery and resting and will be in the intensive care unit of the hospital for about 24 hours. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
