The second of The Great “O” Antiphons is O Adonai. These antiphons are seven brief prayers that are traditionally chanted or sung on successive evenings beginning on December 17.
O Adonai, and Leader of the house of Israel, you appeared in the bush to Moses in a flame of fire, and gave him the law on Sinai: Come and redeem us with an outstretched arm.
As Christians, we are called to be disciples and to make disciples of others. Discipleship is not something we can do alone; we must be and make disciples in relationship with other people. Advent gives us the opportunity to reflect on our own personal spiritual growth and how to be a spiritual leader for others. God may not always reveal the divine presence in a burning bush or a mountain-top experience, rather in small, ordinary moments. In waiting for the Christ Child, we can use these small moments to see God and become more mature in our discipleship.
