Come and See with Your Heart: Standing in Solidarity with Sudan and South Sudan
February 28 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
A famous Sudanese proverb says, “The heart sees before the eye.” Join us as we strive to see with our hearts and hear about the suffering of God’s people in Sudan and South Sudan.
On Wednesday, February 28, at 11:00 am Eastern, join us as we pray for and learn about what is happening in Sudan and South Sudan. The Rev. Daniel Karanja, Africa Partnership Officer, will moderate a panel discussion featuring:
- Wasye Musyoni was the Norwegian Church Aid Sudan Country program manager until the war started in April 2023. A passionate Pan Africanist, Wasye will lead off with her reflections about her service in Sudan.
- John Poole is the treasurer of the Church Association for Sudan and South Sudan (U.K.) and Chair of the U.K. Sudan Roundtable. He has been working in Sudan since 1989 and produces a monthly prayer newsletter. The spirituality of the Sudanese Church has had a profound impact on him.
- Phil Darrow is the President of American Friends of the Episcopal Church of the Sudans (AFRECS), which was founded in 2005. He believes in simply showing up and being present with God’s people no matter their circumstances.
- Patricia Kisare serves as the Legislative Representative for International Issues in both The Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. she is responsible for policy advocacy on a variety of international issues, including food and hunger, global health, trade, human trafficking, and gender-based violence.
Our panelists have spent many years working in and with Sudan and South Sudan. They know first-hand that we must not forget Sudan and South Sudan and the dehumanization of God’s children that continues to happen from Darfur to Khartoum; from Abyei to Juba. They speak powerfully to the spirit of Ubuntu – our lives are interconnected regardless of our station in life or country of origin – and call us to remember that when one child of God is dehumanized, we all are. As another Sudanese proverb says, “He mourns without knowing the deceased.” Come and see! Stand in solidarity with all God’s children in Sudan and South Sudan.
