Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has announced the preachers and presiders for the worship services at the church’s 80th General Convention in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 7-14.

The General Convention Worship Committee—tasked with creatively developing and implementing liturgical services during the eight-day churchwide gathering—gave Curry a list of names to consider. Submissions came from groups and individuals across the church, as well as committee members.

“Efforts were made to raise up many individuals who may be less known but have very important voices for the church to hear,” said the Rev. Canon Mark Furlow, worship committee chair.

The worship committee comprises laity, deacons, priests, and bishops from across the church. Beginning its work in 2019, the committee issued an initial overview report in October 2021. A published reflection on the design phase of their work is forthcoming.

Seeking to highlight the breadth and depth of worship in The Episcopal Church beyond General Convention’s traditional daily Eucharistic services, the committee—at the charge of the Joint Standing Committee on Planning Arrangements and Curry—has designed three celebrations of Eucharist; three Liturgy of the Word services; a sung Morning Prayer service; and a churchwide revival service, broadcast to satellite locations across the church.

The worship committee’s final implementation phase will start in April, with the creative process continuing until the conclusion of the final service on July 14.

De cara a la CG80: Anuncian a los predicadores y celebrantes diarios de la Convención General de la Iglesia Episcopal

El Obispo Presidente de la Iglesia Episcopal, Michael Curry, anunció a los predicadores y celebrantes de los servicios de adoración de la 80ª Convención General de la Iglesia en Baltimore, Maryland, del 7 al 14 de julio.

El Comité de Adoración de la Convención General, encargado de desarrollar e implementar de manera creativa los servicios litúrgicos durante la reunión de ocho días de la iglesia, entregó a Curry una lista de nombres para su consideración. Las propuestas procedían de grupos y personas de toda la Iglesia, así como de miembros del comité.

“Se hicieron esfuerzos por presentar a muchas personas que pueden ser menos conocidas, pero que tienen voces muy importantes que la iglesia debe escuchar”, dijo el reverendo canónigo Mark Furlow, presidente del comité de adoración.

El comité de adoración está conformado por laicos, diáconos, sacerdotes y obispos a lo largo y ancho de la iglesia. El comité comenzó su labor de búsqueda en el año 2019 y en octubre de 2021 publicó un informe general inicial. Próximamente se publicará una reflexión sobre la fase de diseño de su trabajo.

Con el fin de resaltar la amplitud y profundidad de la adoración en la Iglesia Episcopal más allá de los servicios eucarísticos diarios tradicionales de la Convención General, el comité, a cargo del Comité Permanente Conjunto de Arreglos de Planificación y de Curry, diseñó tres celebraciones de la Eucaristía, tres servicios de la Liturgia de la Palabra, un servicio de la Oración Matutina cantada, y un servicio de reavivamiento para toda la iglesia, que será transmitido vía satélite a toda la iglesia.
