Inside The Episcopal Church

Join us for the first episode of Inside Evangelism Matters, recorded live at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights, in the Diocese of Ohio. This daily wrap-up is hosted by the Rev. Lorenzo Lebrija, Chief Development Officer for the Diocese of Los Angeles.

In this episode, we talk to the Rev. Canon Frank Logue, Canon to the Ordinary in the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, about what makes Episcopal Evangelism different from what people might initially think.

A conversation with Ms. Catherine Markwell of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Lake Tahoe, Diocese of Nevada, about how she found the Episcopal Church and the ways, big and small, that she shares the love of God with her community.

Our guest is the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, Canon to the Presiding Bishop for Evangelism, Reconciliation, and Stewardship of Creation. Canon Spellers shares some of the new tools from the Episcopal Church to help Episcopalians understand a new kind of evangelism based on seeking, naming, and celebrating Jesus’ loving presence in the stories of all people—and then inviting them to more.

We are joined by the Rev. Nancy Frausto, Associate Rector at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Long Beach, Diocese of Los Angeles. Nancy describes the integral work of practicing evangelism for a loving and gracious God. She explains that the Church has an extraordinary opportunity to preach God’s peace, justice, and grace and in a world and society that consistently preaches conflict, division, and fear.

Mr. Jordan Trendleman is a layperson from the Diocese of Northern Indiana. He describes his own journey to the Episcopal Church—a journey that led through punk rock, Zen Buddhism, and a very long meditation. Hearing the voice of a “nagging Jesus” that called (and continues to call) him, Jordan describes how authenticity, integrity, and faithfulness are keys to welcoming people to the loving, liberating, and life-giving way of Jesus.

Dr. Sandra Montes of Sugarland, Diocese of Texas, discusses her ministry of welcome and the particular blessings of Latino and Hispanic ministries. She touches on the important work of relationship-building that is based on mutual transformation, community, and honest invitation, in the hopes that the evangelistic spirit that is so clear in Latin American congregations takes hold of the wider Episcopal Church.
