UTO, One Penny at a Time
Welcome to week two of our special celebration month commemorating the work of Julia Chester Emery! This week we’ve got a great letter and video from the president of the House of Deputies, the Rev. Gay Jennings. I hope you’ll read, watch, and share!
This week I wanted to share some math with you from one of our UTO coordinators. There are roughly 2 million Episcopalians in the United States alone. If every American Episcopalian put one penny in a UTO Blue Box every day, there would be more than $7 million to grant each year. It adds up fast if we all contribute, and I bet we all have something each day we can give thanks for.
With that said, have you checked out the resources for children’s sermons on UTO? You can find them here. I’ve tried them out in my church and the kids really enjoyed building Blue Boxes and putting in coins. My kids love putting coins in their boxes!
Today, I’m thankful for Gay and her support of UTO. I hope you’ll join me in getting out the word and giving thanks for UTO, Julia Chester Emery, and Gay Jennings.
Remember, birthday resources are available here, and newly released historical documents from UTO’s early days (including some written by Julia Chester Emery) are available here.
