Bosher, Robert Semple
(May 27, 1911-Dec. 29, 1976). Priest and church historian. He was born in Richmond, Virginia. Bosher received his B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1932, his S.T.B. from General Theological Seminary in 1936, and his Ph.D. from Cambridge University in 1949. He was ordained deacon on Apr. 14, 1936, and priest on Oct. 28, 1936. Bosher was rector of Grace Church, Standardsville, Virginia, 1936-1940, and vicar of St. John's Church, Bernardsville, New Jersey, 1942-1945, before becoming a fellow and tutor at the General Theological Seminary. From 1949 until 1951, he was instructor in Ecclesiastical History. He was associate professor from 1951 until 1954, and from 1954 until 1972, professor at the General Theological Seminary. While he was professor he was also Director of Graduate Studies. His major publication was The Making of the Restoration Settlement (1951). He died in Richmond, Virginia.
