ENGLAND: Dalai Lama to meet Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will join Williams for the meeting with the Dalai Lama, who arrived in London on May 20. Brown's office has called it "an interfaith dialogue with several other religious leaders."
Brown has come under fire for not receiving the Dalai Lama at 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister's London residence, a move some critics say is an attempt to appease the Chinese government, which believes Tibet should be ruled by Beijing.
During his visit to Britain, the Dalai Lama is picking up an honorary degree from London Metropolitan University, where he will meet with Tibetan students, and addressing a parliamentary foreign affairs panel as well as audiences in Nottingham and Oxford.
