The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, has expressed his sorrow and shock at the murders of Father Boulos Iskander, a Syrian Orthodox priest kidnapped in Iraq, and Bishop Alberto Ramento of Tarlac, the former Prime Bishop of the Philippine Independent Church, who was found stabbed to death in his rectory on October 3.
"I deeply regret the killing of Father Boulos. His death throws into sharp focus the deteriorating situation of Christian communities across the Middle East," Williams said. "I learned with great shock and sadness of the murder of Bishop Alberto Ramento. His family and friends and the church that he served with great faithfulness and courage are very much in my thoughts and prayers."
