ERD's Ubuntu Africa Pilgrimage Participants Share Stories of Hope

7/27/2004
[Episcopal News Service]

"The sights and sounds in Namibia are overwhelming. At project after project we visit, our guides are careful to prepare us for what we will see. There is history behind the stories: poverty, unemployment, and malnutrition in this post-apartheid world." Written in Odibo, Namibia, by the Rev. Maggie Geller

Geller is one of six participants on Episcopal Relief and Development's Ubuntu Africa Pilgrimage to Namibia and South Africa. The group is visiting programs supported by partnerships between ERD and the Dioceses of Namibia and Cape Town. Participants are seeing HIV/AIDS projects such as health centers caring for people affected by the disease and schools where children orphaned by AIDS receive an education and nutritious meals.
